Seat of Wisdom Classical Academy
Seat of Wisdom Classical Academy is located at 206 Skillman Avenue in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and serves students in the third through the eighth grades.
Our goals are:
● To assist parents in fulfilling their roles as the primary educators of their children by providing instruction by experienced teachers in core curricular and co-curricular primary school subjects;
● To provide students with the intellectual foundation, and foster in them the moral convictions and personal integrity, that they will need to be life-long pursuers of theTrue, the Good, and the Beautiful and to lead purposeful, happy lives in the service of God and their neighbors;
● To cultivate an environment in which students and their families can form friendships that will support them in their commitment to living a Christ-centered life.
Numerous studies confirm that students thrive academically when parents are involved in their education. The now well-documented success of the homeschooling movement gives ample proof of the dividends that families reap when parents invest time, attention, and love in their children’s schooling. Nevertheless, not every family has the resources and time required to homeschool. SWCA’s classes and innovative schedule are designed to help parents cover the core curricular subjects their children need and provide the co-curricular opportunities they want, in two complementary programs that will make it easier for parents to manage their children’s education while meeting the demands of family life. Parents can choose to enroll their children in one program or both.
The Core Curriculum for Grades 3 to 8: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
Our Core Curriculum takes a classical liberal arts approach to education—an approach that is academically rigorous but at the same time uses developmentally appropriate pedagogical methods, proceeds at a natural pace, and seeks to create an environment in which the goals of education are properly ordered. Students are met where they are to ensure that they have mastered basic skills before they move on to the next level of study. For more information, see the Core Curriculum page.
Classes are conducted through the lens of the Catholic Faith. Students are guided to see their academic work—and, indeed, all of their activities—in the context of their supernatural vocation to live a Christ-centered, service-oriented life, nourished by the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church.
Center for the Arts: Tuesdays and Thursdays
Two days a week—on Tuesdays and Thursdays—teachers at the Center for the Arts offer co-curricular classes in such subjects as foreign languages, music, art, drama and public speaking, as well as opportunities for recreation and exercise. For more information, see the Center for the Arts page.
Two programs: Five days a week
Families can enroll in one program or both. Students whose parents choose to enroll them in both programs will have access to a five-day a week, fully-integrated classical liberal arts education.
